Chrysler UK has splashed out £10 million pounds on a new advertising campaign in an attempt to relaunch the brand in the UK, with a more urban and gritty image. The campaign is called “What We Do” and the TV advert which many of you may have seen for yourselves by now, showcases Chrysler’s entire US range – many cars of which will make their way to the UK soon if not already. In the Chrysler TV advert you will see a new 300C, the Grand Voyager people carrier MPV, the Delta hatchback and the Ypsilon, which is the new Chrysler supermini, which is actually a Lancia, but sold as a  [...]

The Toyota Yaris has been one of Britain’s favourite subcompact cars of recent years. It’s understandable in many ways, as the Yaris is generally slightly more reliable than some other cars in its class, and it offers a Tardis-like amount of space and practicality, is easy to manoeuvre around town and is fairly economical. So the many owners from all spectrums of society, from single younger people to middle-aged family owners and older people, have made a sensible choice. And if the environment and greenness have become an influencing factor affecting your purchasing decisions, then  [...]

Clarkson and May have just finished their feature on tonight’s BBC Top Gear which looked at a couple of contemporary cars made in China – the Trumpchi and the Roewe. Many of you may know that Roewe, the luxury line from the Chinese car manufacturer SAIC Group, started producing Rover-clones based on the old Rover 75, Rover 25 and other Rover models’ technology, since SAIC wasn’t able to secure the Rover brand name when the British firm collapsed. Too cut a long story short, SAIC is now able to use the MG Rover name, assets and the famous factory in Longbridge, Birmingham. The most  [...]

How much would you expect a sky blue Peugeot 504 from 1977 to sell for in Iran? Well for those of you who unsurprisingly aren’t au fair with the Iranian second hand used car market, the answer would be the equivalent of about £1,300. But what happens when someone very well-known on the world stage puts his 1977 Peugeot 504 up for sale? Is it a celebrity? Not really, but it is someone whom many will have heard of – the president of Iran, Mr Ahmadinejad. It has been reported that his particular Peugeot 504, which is white and very low mileage with only about 37,000km on the dial, has  [...]

Those of you who kept abreast of motoring and consumer news over recent months will no doubt have heard that the UK Government was looking into altering the required frequency of MoT (standing for Ministry of Transport) tests, which are currently mandatory for vehicles which are 3 years old, and then every year from then on – yes, that often dreaded time of the year! The Government was planning to tweak things so that only cars of 4 years of age need an MoT test, giving owners of newer cars an extra year off, so to speak. This was largely because newer cars are often more reliable as  [...]

British Car Auctions (BCA) has released a new report which concludes that the supply of LCVs (light commercial vehicles) is drying up, and this may have a negative affect on small businesses in the UK. Professor Cooke, the main author behind the report, states that the two main factors behind the dwindling supply of light commercial vehicles (vans, basically) are that companies are increasingly keeping their fleet vehicles for longer durations and servicing them more whilst changing them less, and at the same time, new van sales are slowing quite significantly, meaning less used vans hit the  [...]

Whatever your thoughts on the BMW X6 Sports Activity Coupé’s unusual design, with a rear end which some say looks rather squashed, the BMW X6 has certainly sold very well (150,000 in three years to be precise), perhaps unexpectedly. It’s fairly easy to understand why, as it blends the off-road ability, road presence and on-road performance and handling of the superb X5 with a sportier, sleeker, coupe-like look. BMW is launching a revised X6 in spring 2012, which will be shown off in Munich beforehand. The facelift will mainly affect the X6 in visual terms, with improvements to the front  [...]

You’ve got to doth your cap to Jaguar! They’ve done it again, with BusinessCar magazine awarding the Jaguar XF the Executive Car Of The Year award for 2012. Making this award even more special is the fact that it’s voted for by real-life business/company car drivers, not just some road testing journalists. So they really are voting for the XF based on experience. And incidentally, on the very same day they received this crown, Jaguar announced that two new models are to be added to the line-up of Jaguar XF cars. These new model specifications are called the Sport and the ‘SE  [...]
