Warranty Myths

There is no doubt that buying an extended car warranty can feel like crossing a minefield. In order to make it a little easier, here are some common Warranty Myths explained so you can separate fact from fiction.

myth:
You can only buy a warranty from the dealer who sold you the car.

fact:
Whilst you can buy a warranty from a dealer, usually they are of a very poor quality and have a dealer commission built in. By buying from a company like Warrantywise, you cut out the middle man and go direct, therefore achieving the best possible price and cover level.

myth:
All Car Warranties are much of a muchness, just go for the cheapest.

fact:
Warranties vary not only from company to company, but many companies have more than one level of cover too. Repairs limits, mileage restrictions and contribution can also vary too. The only way to be completely sure that the cover level is what you want is to ask for a sample copy of the plan. Most reputable companies allow you to download the plan from their website. You can download the Warrantywise plan at www.warrantywise.co.uk/plan

myth:
If my manufactures warranty expired over a year ago, I’m not eligible for a warranty.

fact:
You can take out cover with Warrantywise at anytime up to you car being 10 years old or 100,000 miles. You could even take out cover before your manufacturer warranty expires to make sure there is a flawless transition between warranty covers.

myth:
If my car is faulty, I can take out a warranty and get it fixed under the warranty cover.

fact:
No matter which warranty you decide to take out, you cannot have repairs for pre-existing faults on your car. If your car already has faults on it, then you will need to get it fixed before taking our warranty cover in order for your cover to be valid.

myth:
I need to have a full service history to take out warranty cover.

fact:
Whilst you should be wary of any car that does not have a full service history, if your car doesn’t, you can still benefit from warranty cover. All you need to do is to make sure the car has had a full and major service within the last 12 months and 10,000 miles (or within the period as recommended by the manufacturer if earlier) and you will still be eligible for Warranty Cover with Warrantywise.

myth:
Once I’ve bought an extended car warranty, it means I’ll never have to worry about my car again.

fact:
Whilst having an extended car warranty on your car will give you complete peace of mind against unforeseen repair bills, you still need to keep the car serviced to the manufacturers recommendations to keep the warranty valid. If you don’t you could risk a lot of problems that may not be covered by your warranty.

myth:
I would be better off putting £30 per month to one side to cover any car repairs I might have.

fact:
Modern cars are getting more and more complex every day and inevitably are getting more expensive to fix. Even run of the mill cars such as Ford’s and Vauxhall’s, which have traditionally been cheaper to fix, are now proving expensive. It is not unusual to have a repair for a Ford Gearbox to run into the thousands of pounds. On average the standard warranty repair is £831.98, which rises year on year, however should the worse happen and a major problem occur with your engine, gearbox or clutch, the price cost of your repair could be much higher.
