Earlier in February, the FCA revealed that, following their earlier request, 80% of GAP insurance providers have agreed to suspend the sale of GAP insurance products. This was after the regulator stated that they had ‘identified concerns with the design of GAP insurance’ and wanted to investigate the product to ensure that firms provide ‘fair value to customers’ and ‘ensure that products and services meet their needs’.

Dealers up and down the country who are reliant on post-sale revenue streams will need to adjust their business models in order to fill the gap left behind following the suspension. With no clear outcome or timeline of further instruction or guidance, now is the time to act to maintain strong post-sale earnings.
